A Femme noir
The delta hotel debut novel
When three career women move into the Delta residency Hotel in San Francisco, at the intersection of the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement, the secrets of each woman begin to bleed as their identities are exposed to the harsh light of the times. Spanning the year 1953, with the backdrop of McCarthyism, the Rosenberg executions, Stalin's death, the war in Korea, and Brown vs. Board of Education decision, this novel explores the lives of women, each masking key parts of their identities in pursuit of a better future. Told through alternating points of view and in an episodic style of classic noir, the women's storylines mingle and converge just as women often do. Gender, race, politics, and sexuality are key elements in the storytelling.
